Many of you have been asking for the city demographer’s PowerPoint presentation on Austin demographics and growth trends. Here it is!
Ryan Robinson, the city demographer for Austin, is speaking at the PLantR network meeting today. The last time I heard him speak I took copious notes. Not only does he know demographics, he knows thier impact on the shifting cultural and economic soil of our city. You won’t want to miss him!
In order to plant healthy missional churches that engage the citizens of Austin, it is imperative that planters become and remain missionaries. As missionaries in Austin, we should be the experts on Austin culture, particularly that sub-culture that our churches are reaching. I’ve found that continual study of Austin culture helps me preach, teach, and share the gospel in ways that are meaningful to Austin urbanites.
What Austin culture(s) is your church engaging and what resources have you found most helpful in understanding your people’s hopes, fears, dreams, values, perceptions of Christianity, and so on?
